The smell of barbecue, conversation, and children’s eyes shining with excitement—that was the neighborhood barbecue in Zwickau-Neuplanitz. Between the high-rise blocks, where many different nationalities live in a small space, the popular “village square” around the corner was transformed into a place full of life, laughter, and conversation.

Together with Lichthaus e.V., we organized a super relaxed barbecue on Thursday. Nearly 45 Neuplanitz residents, young and old, attended, including around 20 kids who used the village square for boisterous play. There was romping around and, of course, eating.

On the village square, residents will find homemade raised beds, a “self-made Hollywood swing” for cozy chats, a fire pit, and, of course, plenty of space to play and romp around. This is a place where people come together – for the children and adults of Neuplanitz alike.

What does Neuplanitz want? Every opinion counts!

In addition to delicious barbecue food, salads, and casseroles, there were also lively conversations. People chatted about the neighborhood and what they would like to see in Neuplanitz. One visitor would like to see a meeting place for young mothers, while another said there is a need for activities for senior citizens in the neighborhood. A small survey that was brought along met with keen interest.

For those residents of Neuplanitz who were unable to attend yesterday or would like more input, we recommend August 19, 2025. The first neighborhood meeting will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Lichthaus e.V. premises. The survey can also be completed here. We look forward to hearing your ideas!
