Some things just happen by chance. Like this morning, when the clubhouse of the “Hermann Duncker” allotment garden in the Pölbitz district of Zwickau opened its lovingly crafted doors for a very special premiere: the first Pölbitz coffee party.

As soon as you entered the quaint little club room, you were transported straight back to the GDR past. The motto “Back to the roots” was lovingly implemented here: matryoshka dolls adorn the window sills, and pictures of Pölbitz from times gone by and iconic Trabi motifs hang on the walls. But there was no lack of contemporary flair: the remaining empty spaces were quickly decorated with lively photos of exuberant garden parties, and the fire crackled in the wood-burning stove – simply a mix of history and the joy and community of the club.

Today, of course, the focus was on freshly baked cake (brought by guests) and aromatic coffee, as well as conversation. The first neighborhood event developed into a lively and friendly exchange about the district. Guests took advantage of the cozy atmosphere to talk about Pölbitz: What was there and when? What did it look like in the past? And what is the district like today?

The Pölbitzer coffee party proved how valuable such gatherings are for neighborhood cohesion. An all-around promising start. The next coffee party will take place in November.
