Recognizing volunteer work is a pillar of democratic participation and promotes social and cultural diversity in Zwickau. The “Engagiert im Quartier” project recently held its second open evening for volunteers. This time, the gathering provided an opportunity to say thank you to the many people who volunteer in Zwickau. The event reinforced the importance of community involvement for urban society.
The open evening for volunteers took place at Projekt 46 on Hauptstraße in Zwickau. This space, like no other in Zwickau, represents what commitment and participation from the population can achieve. Engagiert im Quartier invited guests to honor the achievements of committed Zwickau residents. Associations and organizations from the city took part in the evening, including Aidshilfe Westsachsen e.V., Caritas, Rote Baum e.V., Kunstverein Zwickau e.V., the multi-generational house of SOS-Kinderdorf Sachsen e.V., Kunstplantage e.V., and Deutscher Kinderschutzbund Kreisverband Zwickau e.V.
After a brief, heartfelt opening, thanks were given to the associations and individuals present who had shown such commitment. Special thanks were also given to the numerous private individuals who supported various projects in 2025 or joined the initiative for the first time. These events included the Viele Wege Festival 2025, Tanz in den Mai, the Pulverturm Café, and the Hafenbar, but new supporters were also found in neighborhood work. None of this would have been possible without the commitment of many people in Zwickau. The entire evening was characterized by a relaxed atmosphere and many conversations. Once again, it was clear that not all of the association’s members know each other. The evening was accompanied by live music from Leander & der Andere from the Vogtland region.
Evenings like this strengthen the bond and appreciation for those who are committed to the community. It showed the vitality of the civil society network in Zwickau, but it also showed that too few people are involved. Encounters like this are essential for the further development of cultural, educational, and youth-promoting projects. The intention is to continue the open evening, possibly in a modified form.
