This week, the “Engagiert im Quartier” (Committed to the Neighborhood) project was once again active in the Neuplanitz district. Together with Lichthaus Zwickau e.V., neighborhood work in the district was further advanced. For around a year, Alte Gasometer e.V. has been working with the volunteer coordinator to develop new socio-cultural offerings for local residents, with a focus on actively involving citizens. An important point during this week’s neighborhood activities was the outlook for the coming year 2026. Based on the experiences of the current year, new ideas for future activities were discussed. A key challenge remains how to better reach residents of the district. Previous events have been advertised mainly via flyers, mailings, and social media, but the response to the offerings has been lukewarm. Many people are hesitant to enter what they perceive as unfamiliar territory.
However, the neighborhood season provided valuable insights into popular offerings and inspired new event ideas. Specifically, for example, an open-air cinema on the nearby village square was discussed for next summer—an idea that met with approval from all those involved. In addition, the first Neuplanitz parents’ café is to be launched in a daycare center at the beginning of February. Both ideas promote participation and cultural diversity in the district. Another new offering that has already received positive feedback was the first mothers’ meeting in the neighborhood. A small group of young mothers from Neuplanitz came together here for an initial exchange. After getting to know each other, there was a lot of talking and listening. In the future, thematic priorities will be set. These include, for example, discussions about nutrition, the needs of children, and the needs of mothers and/or parents. There are also plans to integrate small creative activities into these meetings. The next mothers’ meeting is scheduled for January 2026.
