Yesterday’s Parents’ Café at the Pusteblume daycare center marked the launch of a new service for parents from the Neuplanitz neighborhood and beyond. Dedicated staff created a welcoming environment for this first get-together at the daycare center. One of the aims of the café is to improve networking among parents in the neighborhood and to create a low-threshold meeting place for conversation. The lovingly decorated room provided a pleasant atmosphere for people from different backgrounds to get together. Families from different cultural backgrounds meet at the facility, including people from Libya, Syria, Germany, Venezuela, and Turkey. This diversity was already reflected in the design and the food brought to the opening.

Interest in the new format was already noticeable before the official start. The first guests arrived before the opening. An extensive buffet with cakes and desserts provided the culinary backdrop for the event. Many mothers prepared homemade treats for the occasion. The selection ranged from banana cake and muffins to traditional sesame cookies and simit. In addition to the food, there were creative crafts on offer, which added to the informal character of the afternoon.

After a brief period of initial hesitation, lively conversations quickly developed among the twenty guests in attendance. The event is expressly aimed at all parents in the district and promotes social participation and intercultural dialogue. The event showed how simple formats can build bridges between different walks of life. Talking about everyday topics and spending time together strengthen cohesion in the neighborhood. The positive response once again confirms the need for such open meeting places in the neighborhood.

Plans are already underway to continue the event. The next parents’ café will take place on March 5 in the usual premises. Regular events like this are an essential part of socio-cultural work in Zwickau. They promote the formation of networks and support democratic participation at the local level.
