Sunshine and mild temperatures provided the backdrop for yesterday’s neighborhood meeting in the Pölbitz district, which once again took place as part of the Engagiert im Quartier (Committed to the Neighborhood) project. The event combined the usual monthly coffee klatch with a communal winter barbecue in front of the clubhouse.
The afternoon began with a selection of homemade cakes, which the participants contributed to the communal table. Once again, there were new faces among the guests from the neighborhood, underscoring the growing sense of community within the neighborhood. The mild weather conditions allowed the group to enjoy an outdoor barbecue after coffee. The relaxed atmosphere encouraged interaction between the different generations in the district. All leftover food was packed up and taken to the subsequent neighborhood meeting to provide good food there as well.
The neighborhood meeting focused on concrete planning for the coming weeks and getting residents involved. A central topic was the preparation of the upcoming spring cleaning campaign, which is intended to ensure cleanliness and better coexistence in the neighborhood. The participants also worked on the design of a new flyer. This is intended to motivate even more people in the neighborhood to take advantage of the new offers or to actively participate in shaping their living environment. Resident participation is an essential part of socio-cultural work to strengthen democratic participation at the local level.
The group welcomed Maria from Caritas Zwickau as a guest, who brought an important social issue into the discussion. She presented the Week Against Loneliness, which will take place at the end of June. The group began to consider how the volunteers from Pölbitz could participate in this week of action. The aim is to draw attention to the growing and cross-generational problem of social isolation and to create low-threshold opportunities for people to meet. The discussion was productive and characterized by the desire to make solidarity more visible in the district.
Such formats for bringing people together remain an integral part of the association’s work to strengthen social cohesion in Zwickau. The coming weeks will now be used to finalize the flyers and organize the clean-up campaign. By combining social interaction with thematic work, it is possible to promote sustainable participation in the neighborhood and improve the local quality of life together.
