The “Engagiert im Quartier” project fosters connections among residents of the Pölbitz neighborhood and, through regular meetings, injects new energy into the local community. Last week, a group of dedicated individuals gathered once again for a casual get-together over coffee. Thanks to the warm spring weather, the Hermann Duncker allotment garden complex offered the opportunity to use its outdoor area for the first time.
The pleasant atmosphere provided the setting for an in-depth discussion of current neighborhood issues. Participants discussed new developments and strengthened existing intergenerational connections. Among other topics, the upcoming spring cleanup in the neighborhood was a central focus of the discussions.
The subsequent neighborhood meeting this time served to finalize the details for the spring cleaning campaign at a total of four locations. These efforts will focus on the area around Neue Welt and the adjacent park, as well as Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße all the way to Nordplatz. Additional locations include Pölbitzer Straße and the area around the YMCA youth center on Franz-Mehring-Straße. Particularly encouraging was the willingness of senior women from the neighborhood to provide active support. This commitment underscores the sense of community and responsibility among residents for a livable residential environment.
Another key topic of discussion was the planning of a new cultural initiative for Pölbitz. This initiative is set to enrich the neighborhood by June at the latest and open up new opportunities for community involvement. In addition, those present are preparing a special coffee gathering in June. This will take place as part of the nationwide Week Against Loneliness. Through cooperation with other organizations such as Caritas and Lichthaus Zwickau, the aim is to specifically draw attention to the issue of social isolation. Participants discussed various ideas for organizing this event and collected suggestions for other necessary offerings in the neighborhood.
The next coffee gathering will take place on May 21, once again at the Hermann Duncker allotment garden complex. The initiative is also looking for additional gardeners in Pölbitz who would be willing to open their gardens to the group from time to time. Interested individuals can contact the association at 0175-1916383 to coordinate. The ongoing work in the neighborhood strengthens democratic participation and promotes sociocultural diversity in Zwickau. By combining civic engagement with practical neighborhood assistance, the association makes an important contribution to the social inclusion of all population groups.
