The kick-off meeting of the new youth advisory board marks an important step for youth participation in Zwickau. Youth councils provide opportunities to contribute ideas, take on responsibility, and actively shape democratic processes. They create spaces where young people’s perspectives become visible and can be included in broader social discussions.

On May 7, 2026, the newly elected members of the youth advisory board met for the first time at the youth club of Alter Gasometer. The focus of the meeting was on getting to know each other and receiving an introduction to upcoming tasks and responsibilities. Participants were given an overview of the structure of the board and the opportunities for involvement it offers.

During the meeting, the new members introduced themselves, sharing their interests and motivations. It became clear that a wide range of topics is represented, from cultural projects to socio-political issues. In addition, former chair René Reimann shared insights from his previous term. He provided an overview of the practical work of the youth advisory board and highlighted both opportunities and challenges connected to this engagement.

Another key focus was the planning of the first public appearance. This is scheduled to take place at the Viele Wege Festival on May 30. There, the new youth advisory board members will introduce themselves in a talk format and present their topics. The preparation of this event was seen as a shared starting point for future collaboration.

The atmosphere of the meeting was characterized by openness and motivation. The commitment of the participants and their anticipation for the next three years were clearly noticeable. Future work will focus on gradually implementing the developed ideas and testing new formats of participation to further strengthen opportunities for youth involvement in Zwickau.
