Between tradition and new thinking
How do we want to remember – and how should we do it?
At a time when historical narratives are being questioned and practices of remembrance renegotiated, Max Czollek and Oliver Titzmann discuss different approaches to a culture of commemoration. Czollek advocates for a modern, plural form of remembrance that makes present-day realities, diversity, and social ruptures visible. Titzmann emphasizes the importance of classical forms of commemoration, which create continuity and preserve historical responsibility. A reading and conversation bring both positions together and open up new perspectives on the past, present, and future of remembrance.
At the beginning of October, Max Czollek’s new book “Alles auf Anfang. Auf der Suche nach einer neuen Erinnerungskultur” (co-authored with Hadija Haruna-Oelker) will be published and can be purchased on site.
An event as part of the NOVEMBERTAGE.
This project is co-financed with tax funds on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon State Parliament.
