Remembering the victims of National Socialism
Since 1996, 27 January has been a national day of remembrance in Germany for the victims of National Socialism and marks the liberation of Auschwitz Birkenau in 1945. Since 2005, it has been internationally recognised as Holocaust Remembrance Day.
In Zwickau, a joint moment of remembrance will take place in front of the town hall, organised by Alter Gasometer e.V., Theater Plauen-Zwickau and the Demokratiebündnis.
All residents of Zwickau are invited to join in a vigil to commemorate the victims. Memories of a Jewish resident of Zwickau will take centre place and be complemented by music. There will be an opportunity to lay flowers and attach the cranes folded earlier in the theatre.
As part of the TACHELES Year of Jewish Culture in Saxony, cranes can be folded in the theatre from 5 p.m. onwards, before the commemoration begins. A reading will follow in the theatre at 7.30 p.m.
